Rodney Daniells’ Tango de Salón Workshops

(Members Only)

Lesser Town Hall, 82 Cambridge Street, West Leederville, Perth

After the success of the last series of workshops in September and October 2025, Rodney Daniells will be teaching another exciting series of Tango de Salón Skills Share workshops in March and May 2026. These workshops will continue to build on essential skills, offering both foundational and advanced techniques for dancers of all levels.

Part A: March Workshops (4 Workshops)

Dates:

• Saturday 7th & 21st March: 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm

• Sunday 8th & 22nd March: 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm (before the Sunday practica)

The Part A workshops in March will focus on essential social tango skills, with Part B to follow in May 2026 (dates: Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th, and Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st May). More details about the May workshops will follow soon.

What you’ll progressively learn over the course of 8 workshops:

1. Anatomy of Tango Movement

Explore the biomechanics of tango, linking posture, alignment, and body awareness to

the movement of the legs, arms, and torso. You will develop a deeper understanding

of walking, spiral movement, pivots, ochos, and turns.

2. Embrace & Connection

Study the flexible and variable embrace, including transitions between closed

(cerrado) and open (abierto) positions. The embrace will be approached as a dynamic

system, exploring partner communication, balance, breathing control, and role

responsibility.

3. The Walk for Leaders & Followers

Develop your walk as an expression of style, technique, and musicality. Learn how to connect to the floor and manage your axis with fluidity, style, and musical expression.

4. Traditional Linear Movements

Master traditional salidas, caminatas, cruzadas, and turns. Learn classic patterns from the 1940s milongueros, including turning caminatas and changes of direction (COTD).

5. Pivots & Ochos

Understand the relationship between spiral movement and pivots. Explore the use ofoverturned ochos for easier navigation, rhythmic versus melodic ochos, and how to

integrate pivots into traditional walking patterns.

6. Circular Movements & Turns

Study traditional giros, sacadas, and embellishments in circular movement. Learn how to change direction and explore classic turn patterns such as enrosques, lapiz, and

paradas.

7. Linking Linear & Circular Movement

Learn traditional linking elements such as barridas, cruzadas, ganchos, boleos, and

calesitas, along with the use of shared axis spirals and independent embellishments.

8. Proprioception, Spatial Awareness & Floorcraft

Improve your navigational skills and spatial awareness, helping you move seamlessly

within a social dance setting.

9. Classical Musical Interpretation

Learn the traditional milonguero approach to musicality, focusing on storytelling

through movement. Topics will include Orquesta Típica structure, cadencia, phrasing, and interpreting pauses and dynamic changes.

These workshops are designed for all tango dancers, whether you’re refining your basics or exploring advanced techniques. Rodney’s progressive approach will help you develop your technique, embrace, musicality, and partner connection.
