This is an open and free-for-all practice space where the line of dance is not enforced.  There is space for practicing your underlying technique, or figures. There are also mirrors. The atmosphere is a vibrant mix of Nuevo (20%) and mostly traditional music (80%).  The setting and lighting is cafe style, where you can join with others to mix and mingle. Everyone is welcome at the Tango Café.

  Thursdays 7.30 - 8.30pm

  Tango Basics is an 8-week dance class for adults, covering the basic movements, structure and music of Argentine tango. This class is ideal for beginners, no previous experience is required. No partner is required, but couples are most welcome. These lessons are also useful for dancers who are coming back to tango after a long break, or want to revisit the basic elements of tango.

  Tango Basics covers the following elements: walking, turning, stopping, navigation, musicality and some embellishments. After this course, students will be able to participate and navigate a milonga (i.e. a social dance).  The eighth lesson will close with a social "graduation" dance (called a milonga) finishing at 11pm.

  

  Fee: $100 per person for 8 weeks. The fee also includes Club membership which offers reduced fees for Club events and free parking (during Club events). Members pay $65.

  Course Registration: Arrive at 7 pm Thursday for registration. New registrations will only be allowed for the first two weeks into the course. 

  Taste of Tango: From 7.00 to 7.30 pm a Taste of Tango session provides an obligation-free introduction to tango for people who drop in to try it out. The class follows on immediately after, from 7.30 – 8.30 pm. If you are available though, our teachers encourage you attend from 7.00 pm for an extra bonus half hour of tango dancing.
  

  Dress: Comfortable neat casual clothes.  Dance shoes are preferable; however you will need shoes that allow you to freely pivot on your feet.  Rubber sole shoes are not good for dancing as they can hurt the knees.

  Hygiene: Argentine tango is a close embrace dance, hence the need for good personal hygiene to make the experience enjoyable.

  Instructors: Your instructors are Mike and Marzena. Mike and Marzena are experienced dancers and have been running this course for over 5 years. Mike can be contacted via email mhampson@iinet.net.au. 

  Guided Practice: The Club also offers practise sessions called "practica". These run on Tuesday evenings 7-9:30 pm and Sundays afternoons between 3 to 5 pm.  We encourage our students to take the opportunity to attend these to cement the key elements of the lessons into muscle memory and to get to know your follow students and other Club members.

  High-Quality Connection 13:00 - 14:30

  Explore how to communicate fully through dance. We’ll dive into the dynamics of partner connection—understanding what you listen to, what you aim to lead, and what you ultimately express in dance. Learn to use points of contact in the embrace, and connect with the ground to bring fluidity and expression to each movement.

  X-Files 14:45 - 16:15

  Combinations of Crosses and Changes of Direction: This lesson delves into the tango cross, examining technique, timing, and connection in depth. We’ll cover lead-follow dynamics and musical interpretation, empowering you to apply the cross creatively and expressively in your dance, with a focus

  Seminar will be $100 (for 3 workshops). Non-members will have have $10 surcharge.

  You can also drop-in on individual workshops for $40 each ($45 non-members).

  Celebrate the festive season with us at our Tropical Tango Christmas milonga! Embrace the summer vibes with a night of dancing, laughter, and holiday cheer. We’re bringing a touch of the tropics to our Christmas celebration—think bright colors, warm summer breezes, and plenty of festive spirit.

  This year, we’ll feature live music from Hugo’s Merry Tango Ensemble, setting the perfect rhythm for a night of unforgettable dancing. And between sets, enjoy the tangos from our popular DJ Jorge, who will keep the energy high with his happy Latin cortinas.

  Dress in your best summer style with a hint of holiday flair, and enjoy a night of delightful tangos and tropical surprises. It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday season with friends, fun, and tango!
